Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP)
Following a qualifying total loss or unrecovered theft, GAP may help address an eligible difference between the insurance settlement and the outstanding vehicle loan balance.
How GAP works
After an eligible total loss, your insurer generally determines a settlement based on the vehicle’s value. That amount can be less than the outstanding loan balance. GAP may waive an eligible portion of that difference under the agreement.
Financing matters
GAP addresses eligible debt rather than ordinary repairs or cosmetic damage. A cash purchase has no vehicle loan balance to protect. Lease and finance eligibility, deductible treatment, benefit caps and remaining obligations must be checked against the selected agreement.
Coverage details
Optional GAP protection has limits and exclusions; some amounts may remain your responsibility. It does not replace auto insurance. Eligibility depends on the financing arrangement and agreement.
